Reader's Experiences

Here are a few of the thousands of responses I've received since the books were first published. I've selected a sample covering a range of different demographics: from teenagers to seniors, couples to singles, male and female; which demonstrate the effectiveness of the G.I. Diet for everyone.

I would love to hear about your experiences with the G.I. Diet, and any tips, suggestions or recipes you may have.

Rick, I know you hear this over and over again but your book has done what I considered to be the impossible. When I bought the book in May of 2002, at 5'10" I weighed well over 200 pounds, with a 41+" waist - far into the BMI high risk zone! The first couple of weeks I was just toying with some of your ideas, managed to drop 5 pounds without really trying so I was sold. I went full-fledged into the program on May 31st. Twenty weeks later on October 18 I reached 168 lbs and a 36" waist. That's over 30 pounds and five inches!! Needless to say my pants have all gone to charity and I've had to buy new ones two sizes smaller. I have a healthy BMI, healthy waistline, feel great and I'm maintaining the weight. Thanks again....I'll continue your program for the rest of my life.

As a teenager i know that dieting is a big thing for a lot of us....we're always trying different diet's to try and lose the weight. So many of my friends usually end up going hungry. Because i've witnessed this happen so many times....the idea of dieting completely turned me off, until i found your diet. Considering this was the first diet i've really ever done....i'm surprised that it actually worked. i've been so amazed with the results....i don't want to give away my secret to my friends! i've managed to lose 24 pounds in a healthy natural way...even my doctor was pleased with i had done....i just wanted to commend on this wonderful diet....and trust me im never hungry! i sometimes have to force myself to finish the meals!

I can’t believe that after two pregnancies and at the age of 32 I weigh what I did in high school! It’s thanks to the GI Diet! I’ve tried other diets but this is the one that has changed the way I eat and exercise for life. It has changed my understanding and relationship with food. Some additional positive side effects: no more headaches, no more hunger pains, no more periodic mood swings and “blues”, no more heartburn, and greatly diminished symptoms of PMS and menstrual discomfort........... I read the book, began the GI Diet and have lost twenty pounds as well as six inches around the waist..... I have never felt better, more active and more energetic. What a joy to be able to go on long hikes, canoe trips and bike rides with my husband and feel terrific doing it!

I am thrilled about the 50 pound weight loss (In just less than 4 months), significant reduction in my blood sugar. Your book has given me renewed hope in getting my weight off, as I have 50 more to go. It is so confidence building to know that it is not my fault for my morbid obesity these past many years, and I only wish I had known this information years ago. I cannot thank you enough!!!! ... and thank you, thank you, thank you for your book that is so very easy to read and follow, with hugely positive results. I think at least 30 copies of the book have been purchased by my friends and family, even some acquaintances.

Wow it has been 7 months now and I have lost 72lbs. What a great feeling. I can go shopping again and not be embarrassed about the size I buy. I have no more major migraines every week. The last one I had was three months ago. My sugar has been excellent. It is such a new way to live and I love it. So many people have commented on the way I look. My husband is so happy about the results he has started on the program.
Thank you I feel great!

...my husband has adopted eating low glycemic foods to control his diabetes along with walking our dog and he has had great success! No more medication, a 60lb. loss, no headaches and substantially lower blood glucose readings. A reading of 24 last February to readings today between 5 and 8. Dave ignored his condition for 5 years and now it is like a light went on. I never thought he would have the will power but he says he feels better now than he has in years. I'm so happy and proud of him…I greatly appreciate all the information my husband and I have already learned from you. Thank you and please keep the information coming!

I had tried several diet plans throughout the last 30 years. Including Weight Watchers, Counting calories, counting fat grams, low carbohydrate diet, starving myself, the soup diet, and even Richard Simmons weight loss program. None of these worked for any length of time, and all the weight I lost with these came back three fold.
So I went out and purchased the book, and began to read it that night. I couldn't put it down!! It all made perfect sense and was written in a way that was easily understood, and best of all..... NO MEASUREMENTS OF ANY FOOD!
I have lost a total of 63 pounds, and have dropped from a size 28 (which was a very tight 28) to a size 18!! More important than the weight loss is the fact that my last blood work done by my Doctor was unbelievable, my cholesterol levels dropped drastically, and I am now in the normal levels!!!
I still have my goal weight to reach and I have another 87 pounds to lose, but I know I can do it!
I still have cravings for snacks and junk food, but I now find that if I eat these foods, I just don't feel as well as I do when I stick to my low G.I. foods. So I don't listen to my cravings because I know they don't make me feel good. I feel that this G.I. Diet is the best! I can't say enough good things about it and am very quick to tell others about it!
The world would not be in such dire straits with the obesity problems if everyone went G.I!!
Thanks for listening,

Pamela

I wanted to write and thank you for your book. I have been overweight all of my life... I had peaked at 302lbs and had come to the conclusion that I was a food addict and trying to lose weight was hopeless having tried and failed with every other plan out there, or so I thought! Thank God, a very dear friend of mine found your book. 7 weeks later I weigh 273lbs and I have never felt so good. It's not only the weight loss it is the fact that your plan has turned off my inner demon's voice! I no longer crave sweet things... I haven't had ANY chocolate in 7 weeks (the longest I have been without it since birth, I swear!) and I am finding the plan easy to stick to and easy to manage. Now thanks to you I KNOW I am going to get down to a healthy body weight for the first time in my life. I am 37 years old and I feel like my life is just starting.... thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Sarah

I loved your book and have had much success with the diet. Last week I bought some trousers with a 34 inch waist - the first of that size that I have been able to wear since I was 27 years old, 33 years ago. I have stabilised my weight 28 pounds down from my peak weight and just inside the okay weight range. The weight loss rate has been phenomenal, so I plan to rest here for a while. In a few weeks, when I am ready again, I hope take my weight down by another 12 pounds to the ideal BMI of 22.
Thanks for the first simple intelligent diet that I have ever seen.

Mike.

Thank you so much for giving me my life back! At that time I though I would give it a go, but that it would probably end up on the shelf with all the other diets books I've got.
How wrong I was. Starting at 240lb 8 weeks ago, I'm now down to 210lb and amazingly I have dropped 2 dress sizes. The weird thing is, apart from relinquishing the obligatory spud at every meal, I still feel like I've yet to start the diet!
I feel absolutely wonderful, I have energy to keep going all day without having to nap, my memory is back (it was starting to resemble the memory-span of a goldfish!)and my husband can't keep his hands off me! My doctor is stunned by my progress and is going to start recommending this diet to his other highly obese patients.
After spending most of my life binging, comfort-eating and basically grossly abusing my body, at the age of 32 I think I might possibly find a slim person! I know I have about 56lb still to go to be an 'acceptable' weight in the stereotypical way, but this time it doesn't frighten me. Thank you again for helping me to reclaim my life (and my body!)

Maeve.
